The Aquaculture System at Byron High School, Byron, IL

The aquaculture and aquaponics systems used at Byron High school consist of a combination of the small commercial and large commercial systems designed by Myles Harston of AquaRanch Industries, LLC., Gridley, IL.

The large commercial system includes 2 - 2,000 gallon tanks each with a 4 foot side wall and a diameter of 10 feet. The small commercial system consists of 800 gallon tanks which each have the capacity to grow 400 pounds of fish to market in an 8’ x 12’ floor space.

The system has the ability to pump water to an aquaponics set up or garden. As Mr. Ginter at Byron High School stated, they combined their aquaculture tanks with a hydroponic channel system which the effluent water is pumped through.

These systems, designed to grow fish at commercial standards, were created with the home fish culturists and educational facilities in mind, but they can be expanded and used in commercial applications.

The Fecal/Particle Clarifier, which is included with this system (The Fisheries AquaRanch), efficiently removes solids, yet is easy to clean and maintain.
